The
Tarn Pigeon Coops
" Ah, the pigeon coop, how it makes one think of
bygone days! In the old days, having pigeons meant one
was rich and powerful. It was above all the privilege
of monasteries and castles. For a long time later,
wine growers used pigeon droppings as fertiliser for their
vines. Nothing works better as a fertiliser, believe us!
Domesticated pigeons were raised in the pigeon coop, which
was kept shut during the sowing season. Today that word
has a more romantic connotation! Here in Labastide de
Lévis, there are no fewer than 40 pigeon coops! |
